Is this Bettinardi a good Aquisition, Please Advice?????
« on: October 06, 2007, 03:55:36 pm »
Guys, I am contemplating on buying this putter, but I wanted to know what you guys think.  I was told this putter was made as a limited edition for the Mercedes Championships.  This would be my first Bettinardi putter.  Thanks!

Might be limited for the Mercedes championships, but it's commonly available.  For $100 it's good.

Do a completed listings search on eBay.  Only one sold in recent history.

If you like the look of that, there is a BB43 from 3balls on eBay now which has a similar shape but is much more collectible.

Hector...there are a couple BB43's on the bay right now. :) One is a production DASS BB43 the other is a TOUR with a copper insert. Both putters are very cool IMO.

Ben is a very nice guy by the way ;)

I acquired a Bett by Hogan centersahft on closeout from Golfsmith and it rolls very nice.  Especially for the price that they were blowing them out at.  I did inquire about the same Mercedes putter you have pictured to a Bett collector and he informed me of numbers and what I should pay to get a deal.

I would go with one of the Tours or the ones with just Bettinardi on them.

Hector - Are you buying this as a collector's putter or something you can use?  As a collector, the Mercedes putters are quite plentiful, and that keeps the price down.  About 4 to 6 months ago there were a bunch on eBay and they were sometimes selling for less than $100.  Since then the price has rebounded, and I've seen a bunch sell for more than $150, sometimes over $200.

If you want a Bettinardi to use at a good price, and you like the style, go for it.  Keep in mind though that the X material the Mercedes is made of (as well as any Hogan Bettinardi with an X in it) is very, very soft and it dings and scratches easily.  However, as a wall hanger it looks great.  If you use it, you can still keep it in good shape but you have to be careful.

Well guys, after reading all this positive and insightful information, I am going to hold on on that one and save for a Tour model.  J, I will be talking to you in the near future.

Guys thanks a lot for the info.

Good choice. The Benz putter is a good one, but it was a giveaway. I've got two and all I had to do was buy a couple of cars. I was kinda surprised they are going back up in price.

No, no, no.

My foster brother sells the things, and he always gets in trouble for the good deals he ramrods through for me. Then he made sure I got an invite to the Dealer's tournament, where everybody got a putter.

Believe me, my life would be much simpler if my wife would consider driving a Honda.
