Traveling
« on: February 16, 2010, 03:14:04 pm »
So I am going to Jamaica in a few weeks and going to get to golf 4 rounds in down there.  My #1 putter and favorite is a Bettinardi BB2 aluminum bronze putter that I got last summer and just love it.  My question is, when you travel (I have a non stop flight) do you take a back up putter, or clubs for that matter, or take the real deal?  I just would hate to loose that putter and have to search for a replacement.  Let me know what you guys would do.

Sorry if this is a lame post but it has been on my mind.

I take my gamer(s) and my regular clubs. I do stick my putter(s) in the bag upside down. It makes them a little less visible and it also is harder for someone to just pull them out without taking most of the other clubs out also.

Your home owners insurance probable will cover any loss. Take photos of what you are taking with you.

Putter upside down...good idea.  I'll be doing that from now on when I travel.

The airlines will cover any loss....they don't like it, but it you have proof of what you had they will pay you if lost or damaged during your flight.

It depends on where I'm going, I did some project work in Mexico and took only back ups. Last trip to Maui I took a couple putters with me. Southwest makes you sign a damage waiver if you have a soft case.

My son and I travel by air to his tournaments all the time. his bag is stuffed with two putters and two drivers most of the time... this past weekend his clubs were delayed but everything showed up on the next flight and was delivered to the hotel within hours of their arrival. It's a little nerve racking when they don't show, but you have got to have faith in the airlines.

My mother is a career travel agent and the best tip ever is to put a big (1' x 2') piece of cardboard with your name, address, phone and email in all your bags on top of clubs or clothes for easy indentification if any exterior bag tags fall off.

Andy had his on Ebay and the Swap/Shop...

I think it spoils a great round on vacation to make do with rental clubs/putter, especially knowing there is a slew of nice putters back home.  Just take the necessary precautions with pics/insurance coverage and securing your bag and have fun on the trip!
