FIT Face Info?
« on: February 03, 2010, 01:20:18 pm »
I did a quick little search, and didn't find any really good info or any reviews on the face milling.

Anyone here play with it?  What do you think?

Thanks!

Hey, I've not had a chance to play with one.  But I did pick up a BB5 with a FIT face, I haven't received it yet, but I've heard great things about it.  I'm sure there are plenty here that games one that can give a good review on it.    I'll be happy to report back once I get to spend some time with mine. :)
They are all Bettinardi

Feel is so subjective and different for each individual.  You will have some that like the F.I.T. Face and probably some that do not.

Having said that, I have owned a couple Bettis with the F.I.T. Face, and the feel is incredible!  The DASS F.I.T. face putter I had was so buttery soft that it almost had the feel of carbon.  It really aids in getting the ball rolling as well.

If you have the chance to try one out, do not hesitate at all!

I don't have anything to add about the feel but I would like to have one... preferably a JAM maybe I will get to spend some time with it too and make sure I like it putting as much as I do looking at it

I hope the feel on the tour Fit Face is a bit different than the one which was found in the retail Mizuno Bettinardis.  I thought it felt too soft on those (could have been the way it was done or that it was on carbon steel).  Either way, I've been a little leery of them based on that experience, but I would like to try the tour version on a DASS putter.

Keep in mind there are at least 4 different FIT faces that I know of:

The FIT face used in the Mizuno Black Carbon series
The FIT face used in the 10th Anniversary Asian release (called MR2)
The FIT face used on (primarily) DASS putters
The FIT face used on the Brian Gay models

I have a FIT face JAM...i think....Cant really find any info on it. From just putting indoors i would say the FIT face on carbon feels like Copper which I think feel wise is butter. Real Soft! I attached a pic.

Sounds like Goldilocks and the 3 bears :)  I think we need a pictorial.  What is the difference in the B Gay fit face?  I tried the sig proto and also thought it was to soft.

Yes - each of the FIT faces allows for varying amounts of contact between the ball and putter face.  The less contact the ball makes with the face, the softer the feel.  I can't comment on the Brian Gay FIT face as I've never held or rolled one.  However, I can comment on the other three:

The DASS FIT face feels the softest as it has the least amount of putter face that contacts the ball.  I.e, more material is milled away leaving less material to contact the ball.

The BC series is softer than the MR2 FIT face but harder than the DASS FIT face.

The MR2 FIT face has the least material milled away leaving the "clickiest" sound of the three.

thanks for the info that is good to know from someone whohas compared the three I have wondered I am thinking about one but it may be too soft

Honestly guys...feel is totally subjective. Some say one is softer than another, plating and finish, and sound slots and face thickness all come into play, so comparing a DASS BB8 Style Fit face to a carbon BB1 fit face, to a stainless BB2 fit face is impossible.  All I can do as a distributor is give you my honest opinion if someone asks for it, but to say one style or one version is softer than another is arbitrary without having a specific head, finish, and shaft and grip combo as well.

Makes sense Nick.  I think it is great that there are multiple fit face options so that you can really set up a putter specific to you needs.  Plus, they look sweet!

Thanks for the B. Gay fit face picture.  Yes, I agree Nick feel is extremely subjective.  But it is still great to learn about all the different Fit Faces to help better understand what one may want.   For reference here is a black carbon Mizuno Fit Face and the same type of Fit Face on a Jam model in the registry.

I just realized they didn't reply to me when people responded...  :(

But thanks to everyone who tossed in their 2 cents.  I just picked up my first Bett... loved the look so I took a shot... and I found the face strange.  I know zip about Bettinardi's but I am slowly picking up some info here and there.  Call it a whole new world?  Can't wait to get it in hand to roll a few...

Not yet, it's going over to the Studio for loft adjustments before it gets to me.  I am pretty stoked...  I will be sure to write a heck of a review when I get it though...

Something to keep in mind with the DASS FIT face is that very little of the face actually can make contact with the ball.  In the photo below I have put a red dot on the raised portions of the face.  The feel is very soft and muted--too much so in my opinion.  The DASS FIT feel to me is much softer than the Black Carbon FIT face.

I only have experience using the FIT face on the BC model putters. It's definitely soft feeling. Too soft for me, though some guys I play with really like it.

I just got my half moon mallet proto, and I have to say it is NICE!  The FIT face is a little softer than a regular milled face, but not enough to make it a thud like many insert putters.  Great combination of feel and softness...

I will be taking photos over the weekend for sharing!  My first Bett is a doozie!
