Ever change putters for change's sake?   From an old faithful to a newer modern design.   If so what happened??

2 Times I tried a mallet over a putter that was doing well. needless to say, I found out I can't putt with mallets..or anything face balanced.

When the 2-ball first came out I bought one just because the sales girl at GG suggested it (she was hot). Worst I've ever putted in my life. Thank god for my Custom Soft Tail!

I never really had an "old faithful" and never really bothered trying to find one.  I seem to gravitate back to my blade styles that have less toe hang, but this is not a hard and fast rule by any means

Changed from a SS newport 2 to a circa 5 asian.  Terrible mistake.  I couldn't handle the extra weight.

I ditched my TPM Tradition for a 009 and putted like crap.  Ditched the hype and have gone back to the TPM and have rolled the rock very well.

I am sorry, but I thought you were talking about your wife. laugh laugh laugh

Back on topic, whenever my putting goes south, I go get my 35 year old
T-Line and use it for a couple of days than it is back to the hunt.

Three years ago "old faithful" was a SC Bullseye Flange, putted the lights out with it. Now some 200 putters later I'm using a blade style Bettinardi Tour Proto which also has a 5 o'clock toe hang.

Hmm how long do you have to stay with your putter before you can flee in the morning laugh

First off I find I am better with a Mallet than any other type of putter.

When I really Young and stupid Woot!  I used a Bullseye putter had that for 2 yrs

Changed to a Ram (K MART Special)  Undecided kind of a mallet type and used that for about 2 more yrs.

Next up a Ping Anser 4, thus guy stayed in the bag for over 15 yrs Grin

next  Rossie II Mallet type which I kept for 5 more yr

next Never Compromise mallet 4 more yrs

next Doc 17 4 yrs

next Heavy Putter M1  6 months

Where Am I today, back with the Never Compromise Putter.   Right now it is working like a champ.  If it has a few bad rounds do I kick it to the curve?? Undecided  Probably, however some day I will learn that it is not the tool but the loose nut on the end of the handle. laugh

Just ditched my anser2 for my new 006, no report yet on the 006, worst round with anser 2 was 32 putts, best 28, let's see what happens with the 006 under playing conditions, been working GREAT or the old cheapo putting matt.

Ditched SC Studio Style Newport 2 for Byron Test Type.

Looks are similar at address but the extra weight really helps keep putts on-line without have to force the stoke.

My old faithful is my blade.  Of course it's not that old and certainly not faithful (or at least not on the green).  I've ditched it for a circa, coronado, detour, sonoma and newport.  But I keep returning to the blade.  I think we have a co-dependent relationship.

After a year of trying to put with a conventional putter (some good days and some bad days) I am back to the long putter.  Hoping to add a Ping B90 to the bag to replace the Futura Long that I have been using for a few years.

I was a committed mallet player for years... face-balanced, double bent shaft. I played a Peerless mallet for a long time, and was good with it.
Then I joined a links club by the ocean... hello run, and real turn. Nary a flat bit of green in site. It was a new world to me.
I played with a guy using a monstrosity of a Yes!, all triangles and lines. It was ugly. And he did not know how to use it. But I researched the Yes! blurb, watched the slo-mo video's and bought a secondhand Callie as a tester. I had every intention of going to Marylin if I liked the roll off the face. But the shape of the Callie stuck, and it has worked brilliantly. I'll never go back to mallets now.
That secondhander also got me bent down over a 34" shaft (standing 6'2"), which was a revelation as well.

Now sweating on a 350Milled arrival.

Mmmm... Buttery Blades...

« Reply #27 on: November 17, 2007, 02:03:05 pm »

Putted with a Zing 2 for 4 years, and a blade for 4 years after that - harvey penick red river.

since then, it's all bets are off, and the search continues.  Models tried without extended success include:

Ray Cook Blue Goose II
Laguna Oil Can
Mizuno TP mills Workshop IV
Mizuno TP Mills Workshop III
Cameron LaCosta
Cleveland Designed By
Putters too numerous to name from 2nd hand shops

Frustrating, but fun.

Best putting since the Penick putter was the Blue Goose II when I committed to it for a summer.

I have a good relationship with my first Scotty, a Studio Style Newport 2, but every now and then, when it misbehaves, I switch to a TM Monza Corza center-shaft.  Then I quickly switch back and the Scotty feels better than ever.  The problem is that I keep adding putters to the stable, so I don't know what I'll do with more than 2 good choices.  It's a good problem to have.

You all sound too much like my story.  Wonder if you have the addication like I do?

Perhaps you find a putter that works but you feel you must move on?  This is the addication talking.  There must be somthing better out there right. Hmmmmm.

I ditched my "Inspired by Brad Faxon" (Old Faithful) for my "American Classic VII" ('02 styled blade) and am thinking of making another change.  I am looking at a TPM Tour Stock Tradition II finished in Oil Can.
